When pain’s the reminder of all that is gone. When sorrow comes rushing with one word, or one song.
When grief floods each day without any end. When suffering is unjust, and the heart just won’t mend.
When days come and go and light ceases to shine. When hopelessness suffocates and you’re far from the Vine.
When the weight keeps on pressing and you gasp for one breath. When it seems the lamenting could drown you to death.
When you just can’t hold on and you’re sinking below. When the days turn to months, then to years of unknown.
When you’re so deep in fog that the path looks removed. When you sob and you scream and you beg God to move.
When the no end in sight keeps threatening your peace. When the world as you knew it, has crumbled beneath.
When your faith is so small and you can’t even pray. When you know God is near but don’t know what to say.
When you hear His voice calling, He just wants you to come. When you know He’s your safety but the pain says to run.
When the road He’s now led you was all that you feared. When you reach for His hand yet pulled back due to fear.
When you yelled for His help but heard silence instead. When you only feel empty, abandoned, misled.
Now shattered into pieces and perceive all alone. Then feel His arms around you, He says you’re His own.
He was never not with you, He heard every cry. He was right there beside you, teaching you to abide.
When you thought He had left you, and forgotten you there. But realize you’ve now seen the Good Shepherd who cares.
